Why Senepol?
The naturally polled Senepol cattle are known for their fertility, mothering ability, heat tolerance, excellent temperament, smooth red coat and resistance to parasites.
Senepol cattle do extremely well off natural grazing, but also perform very well in the feedlot. The carcass quality, marbling and tenderness of Senepol beef is superb.
What is a Senepol?
The Senepol is a BOS TAURUS breed with the advantage of having the heat tolerance and parasite resistance usually associated with Bos Indicus breeds, but retains the desirable traits usually associated with Bos Taurus breeds such as good temperament, mothering ability, ease of calving and ability to produce sufficient milk. An additional advantage is the natural poll of the Senepol breed. These characteristics make the Senepol the ideal breed for any farming operation.
A typical Senepol bull or cow is of medium frame, red in colour (ranging from a coppery red to a dark red), with fine short coat and is naturally polled.
Calcrete Senepol Stud has an extensive upgrading system in place where approved, selected basic cows that are Phenotypically Senepol are mated to selected, registered Senepol bulls to produce Appendix A Senepol females. Male progeny from basic cows are not eligible to be used in the upgrading system. From the Appendix A Senepol females the best are selected, inspected and approved, then mated to registered Senepol bulls to produce Appendix B Senepol animals. This process is repeated with Appendix B and C Senepol females. The progeny of an Appendix C Senepol female is a fully registered Stud Book Proper Senepol animal.
Calcrete Senepol Stud periodically makes use of embryos from only top producing Senepol cows in order to maintain an excellent genetic base on which to build a superior Senepol Stud.
